LIBRARY GUIDE FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS: Services and facilities

Presentation

The library provides different types of services and facilities to its users. Our reference staff is available to support you with general and specialized service according to your study and research needs. We also support learning and research activities by providing training sessions to the community. Here are some highlights on the services and facilities available.

Asking for support

The library's Reference Service helps users in locating, exploring and utilizing the information resources available. You may ask for support in person or remotely.

For face-to-face support ask:

  • at the main circulation desk (ground floor) or to the librarians circulating by the library floors. You may use the phones available at the circulation desks from the 1st to the 4th floor. General support will be provided.
  • at the user support rooms (InfoLiteracy service) located on the ground floor (room C006) and on the 6th floor (room C601) in order to be provided more specialized support that requires more time.

For remote support:

  • send us an e-mail to infoliteracia@fe.up.pt
  • contact us by skype (user name: infoliteracia)

Individual Rooms

In the 6th flloor, there are 16 study rooms that can be used by any member of the FEUP community. You must however request this service previously through Sigarra.

See here how to proceed.

Cultural activities

FEUP's Library promotes cultural activities such as bibliographic exhibitions, talks and book presentations among others, which are open to all members of the community.

"Clube de Leitura", the reading club of the library, is one of the activities that promotes reading habits and informes the community about the collections of the library.

Training sessions

In order to help the community develop their information skills, the library provides training sessions on how to search and use scientific and technical information resources.

There are two types of training:

  • integrated training in program courses - requested by the faculty and designed according to students' information needs;
  • regular training - thematic training provided on a regular basis from September to June. Open to everyone by self-registration.

These sessions take place at the Library's Training Room (601) located on the 6th floor.

You can check the available Library's training schedule and make your registration at http://feup.libcal.com/

Lockers

At the Library's ground floor there are lockers available for you to store your belongings. You just need to request a key at the circulation desk.

Printers and scanners

You will find printing and scanning equipment available on a self service-basis at the 1st and 3rd floors of the library.
